The Porsche 918 Spyder made its first appearance, still as a concept-car, at the Geneva Motor Show, in March 2010. Four months later, and after around 2000 expressions of interest in buying it, the brand's board of directors decided that its production was viable and gave the project the green light. In September 2013, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the production version was launched, and after 918 units were produced, its manufacture ended in June 2015. The 918 Spyder was the second Porsche plug-in hybrid and goes down in history as the German carmaker's first hybrid supercar. The engine is powered by a mid-mounted naturally aspirated 4.6-litre V8 engine, with two electric motors delivering an additional 283 hp, which gives this Porsche more than enough power and torque to reach 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds. In 100% electric mode it has a range of 19 km. With all-wheel drive, it combines the brand's competition technology pedigree with reduced fuel consumption, an array of arguments that shows, once again, that the brand knows how to follow market needs and trends.
