When the Porsche Carrera GT concept-car was presented in Paris, it caused such a stir that it was decided that a limited series of 1500 units would be produced. Launched at the Geneva Salon in 2003, the model broke away from the common silhouette of Porsche products, aiming to take this design into the new century. Besides the passionate lines, the engine chosen was mid-mounted V10, something unusual for a Porsche. It also had a chassis built in carbon fibre where the powertrain sat in a very low position. Particular attention was given to aerodynamics, with a rear deflector that rose 16 cm once the car hit 120 km/h, and a flat underbody. The interior showed the brand's commitment to producing a car for true enthusiasts. Equipped with leather upholstered sports seats, the steering wheel lacked the usual secondary function controls and the gear knob was made of balsa wood. Offered with only one body version, Spider with two removable roof panels, the Carrera GT was extensively tested and developed by Walther Rohrl, being considered by many to be the last analogue Porsche. A total of 1290 units were produced.
